Rowland Wickes Folensbee, III, more commonly known as Tre Houston, is the embodiment of true hip-hop. Born and raised in Houston, TX, Tre is not a stranger to the roots of the music he has delved himself in. As a child Tre was introduced to artists like Marvin Gaye and Al Green by Mama Nell, a family friend that helped in his rearing. His childhood friend, Jonathan Emmons, was the first one to introduce him to hip-hop. They would play music from Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5 to Run DMC. Through this early exposure to the roots of what is now hip hop, Tre gained a love and a respect for the music. In the 6th grade he began trying to rap and started getting noticed for it by his classmates. He has not stopped. His sound is similar to Brother Ali, Lupe Fiasco, Common, and Kayne West.
Between working in as a cook in the kitchen of a local cafe and schoolwork Tre found time to write music. Beating on tables in the lunchroom in high school Tre was always quick on his toes to come up with original rhymes outside of the box.
Tre has had the honor to work with rappers Future and Openmic of Clean Cut Music and the one and only Derelict of Half Breed Productions. His Nashville debut, hosted by Future and Openmic, drew one of the largest crowd the venue, Café Coco, has ever seen. He is a dynamic performer with a smooth flow that draws the listener in. His rhythm, lyrics, and flow keep the crowd energized, always asking for more. He is an extremely pleasant change from the average hip-hop song with a little more life and a little less ass. Tre is an underground artist trying to bring the art and style back to rap and he has the potential to succeed.
From 2007 until now, Tre has attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. There he made numerous music connections including one to hip hop beatmaker Brian Bachman. They began working together on a few songs. The project eventually evolved into an entire CD. “Unorthodox” is the product of this artistic union, combining orchestral rifts and uncommonly poetic lyrics to create a product that is truely original.
